Quantization of Volterra Kernel coefficients for reduced complexity nonlinear compensators

In this work we investigate a VSTF-based equalizer for the compensation of intra-channel distortions induced by the fiber-optical channel. The complexity of such compensators is further reduced without noticeable performance penalties by appropriate quantization of the kernel coefficients.

The approaches are experimentally validated by transmission of 28-GBd PDM-16QAM signals over 480km and 800km of dispersion compensated links.
