Optimal bandwidth design of laser radar receiver

To improve the sensitivity of a car laser radar, the method of transmitting encoded signal has been discussed. However, for laser radar that transmits encoded signal, the bandwidth of transimpedance amplifier (TIA), which is used to transform current signal generated by photodiode in the receiver into voltage signal, was designed in the same way as those used in optical communication devices.

Different from optical communication receivers, whose main purpose is to reproduce transmitting symbols, the optimal bandwidth of a car laser radar amplifier for maximizing detection ratio of the reflected signal is discussed in this paper. The amplifier, which is designed basing on the simulation results, is expected to improve the detection performance of the laser radar receiver.
